Hike the Wild Rogue

hiking_web.jpg

Oct 9, 2010: Watch salmon jumping Rainie Falls!

This hike offers a chance to see one of the greatest natural phenomenon of our region - wild salmon leaping up a wild rapid on their way back from the ocean to spawn in the Rogue River. The hike to Rainie Falls is an easy to moderate 4.5 mile hike through beautiful low elevation forest along the shores of the Wild Rogue River. This hike will take us into the Zane Grey Roadless Area - the focus of the Save the Wild Rogue campaign that seeks to preserve this old growth enclave with nearly 60,000 acres of new Wilderness.

Meet at 9 am at Evo's in Ashland or at the Rainie Falls Trailhead at the base of the bridge where Grave's Creek enters the Rogue at 10:30.

We will hike in light rain, but will cancel for more severe weather. Bring: food, water, warm clothes, rain gear if needed and binoculars if you have them! Contact laurel@kswild.org or 541-488-5789 for more info.
